Proposed Extension of Luas from Broombridge to Finglas

luas

Transport Infrastructure Ireland unveiled their plans for the Luas line extension from Broombridge to Finglas today. A public consultation on the proposed route will run between now and September 17th – you can visit www.luasfingal.ie for more information.

The big question is when construction on this project can start. Right now, only the design phase has funding under the National Development Plan, and it will be 2024/2025 before design and planning are complete. If funding for construction isn’t then made available, we could be waiting until 2028 for the 3-4 year construction programme to start. This would be a completely unacceptable delay.

Another issue is the provision of parking spaces. At the moment a 600 space park and ride service is planned for Charlestown. While this will hopefully alleviate some of the current parking problems in Cabra, we have also been calling for a park and ride at Broombridge for a number of years. Right now, the National Transport Authority is still opposed to much-needed extra parking at Broombridge.

If you feels strongly about any of the above issues, please consider making a submission at www.luasfingal.ie and help shape the future of public transport in Dublin Central.
