Phoenix Park Traffic Management Proposals Welcome

11 January 2021

Bus service could be potential game changer in ensuring local and inclusive access.

Responding to media reports of the OPW’s traffic management proposals for the Phoenix Park, Senator Marie Sherlock welcomed the proposals.

“Improvements to road safety for both pedestrians and cyclists is badly needed. The introduction of the 30km/h speed limit and restricted access through some of the perimeter gates will help with this, but it is also vital that zebra crossings are introduced at junctions across the Park. Of course, the speed limit will be only be of benefit if enforced.

"The introduction of the bus service could be game changer in ensuring access for local communities adjacent to the Park and the wider population in Dublin. However, guarantees must be provided that it will not displace any existing Dublin Bus services. This needs to be an additional service.

"These proposed changes need to work for all those in the local communities adjacent to the Park and park users from across the city and country. I urge the OPW to ensure closer and stronger linkages with local communities in finalising the measures."
